Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

You know that it is important to see your dentist to prevent gum diseases such as gingivitis and to get cavities promptly diagnosed and treated, but did you also know that your doctor could be instrumental in
diagnosing oral cancer?

According to the Academy of General Dentistry, dentists can help detect oral cancer by feeling for bumps and examining the tissues in the mouth.

Approximately 30,000 new cases of oral cancer are diagnosed every year in the United States and approximately 8,000 people a year die from this disease. April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month and, in recognition, we ask you to talk to your dentist about oral cancer screening and protecting your own
health.

Should Pennsylvania Dentists be Required to Carry Malpractice Insurance?

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

While most dentists purchase malpractice insurance, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania does not currently require dentists to carry malpractice insurance.  That may soon change.

A state senator has introduced legislation that would make dental malpractice insurance mandatory for Pennsylvania dentists.  The bill was reportedly introduced in response to allegations of patient abuse in Berks County and other parts of the state.

What do you think?  Is mandatory dental malpractice insurance in the amount specified in this bill a good idea for Pennsylvania?
