What You Need to Know About Federal Grants to Reduce Medical Malpractice Lawsuits

On Friday, the federal government is going to begin dispersing grants aimed at lowering the number of medical malpractice lawsuits.  The grants were part of a compromise reached when sweeping medical malpractice reform was not included in the health care reform law passed earlier this year.

How Will the Grants Affect People Hurt by Medical Malpractice?

The stated goals of the grant program are to increase communication between doctors and patients, reduce preventable medical errors, ensure patients are compensated quickly when an accident occurs, and reduce malpractice premiums.

How the grants will impact individual patients is yet to be seen.  If they do, in fact, reduce errors, increase communication and ensure quick payments then they may benefit patients.

In the meantime, Pennsylvania patients who have been hurt by medical malpractice should seek the advice of a medical malpractice lawyer to make sure that all of their rights are protected.
