What Happens When the Wrong Kidney is Biopsied?

In January 2010, Renee Deyo was given 5 months to live.   Now, the 47 year old Franklin Township woman is suing Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for failure to diagnose cancer.

Renee Deyo  alleges that the Hospital was supposed to perform a kidney biopsy of her right kidney but instead performed a biopsy of her left kidney after she went to her doctor with blood in her urine.  Her left kidney was cancer free.  Her right kidney, unbeknownst to her at the time, was not cancer free.

It took 20 months for the Hospital to discover its mistake.  In that time, Ms. Deyo’s cancer went from potentially treatable to incurable.  Ms. Deyo’s attorneys allege that the failure to test the correct kidney deprived her of a substantial opportunity to beat cancer and, thus, have filed a lawsuit against Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
