There is No Medical Malpractice Insurance Crisis in Pennsylvania

Earlier this week, Governor Ed Rendell  announced new statistics about medical malpractice in Pennsylvania.  According to Governor Rendell, medical malpractice fund payouts have decreased by more than 60% over the past 7 years.  The number of claims has fallen from 699 to 396 since 2003.  The cost of medical malpractice insurance for doctors has also decreased.

But have the number of medical errors decreased as well?  Are patients being protected as well as doctors?

While no one wants good doctors to leave Pennsylvania because of insurance costs, the emphasis must continue to be on preventing medical malpractice in addition to preventing medical malpractice insurance increases.
