Philadelphia Doctor Target of Local, State and Federal Investigations

Kermit Gosnell, an abortion doctor in West Philadelphia, is currently the subject of state and federal investigations.  Dr. Gosnell operates the Women’s Medical Society at 38th Street and Lancaster Avenue.

The State Investigation

In March 2010, the Pennsylvania Department of Health found that Dr. Gosnell’s practice violated more than 12 state laws and the agency gave the doctor 30 days to respond to the allegations.  The Department of Health never received a response.  On April 20, 2010 the Department of Health filed a motion to have Dr. Gosnell’s license revoked and Dr. Gosnell never responded to that motion either.

On May 20, 2010 Dr. Gosnell is scheduled to appear before the Pennsylvania Board of Medicine for hearings on whether his license should be permanently revoked.

Dr. Gosnell is also the subject of a current grand jury investigation.

The Federal Investigation

At the federal level, Dr. Gosnell is being investigated by the FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration.  The feds are concerned that Dr. Gosnell may be giving out pain medication prescriptions illegally.

Alleged Medical Malpractice

Reports allege that Dr. Gosnell has been associated with the death of at least two women because of his significant medical negligence.  State and local officials are concerned about the allegations from former patients about botched abortions, unlicensed workers, and bloodstained floors.

At least 10 Pennsylvania medical malpractice lawsuits have already been filed against Dr. Gosnell.  Other patients who may have been harmed by this doctor’s negligence are encouraged to seek legal help before the statute of limitations expires.
