Multimillion Dollar Medical Malpractice Verdict Issued in Erie County

Last week, an Erie County jury returned a $3.5 million dollar medical malpractice verdict in favor of Mr. Martin Bliley and his wife.    It is believed to be the second largest Erie County medical malpractice verdict in history.

On December 31, 2007 Mr. Bliley went to the Harnot Medical Center saying that he was having difficulty finding words and speaking.  He also had a slight fever, a brain scan showed lesions on his brain, and a chest x-ray showed a mass consistent with the diagnosis of pneumonia he had received a few weeks earlier.  The plaintiffs and defendants agreed that his symptoms could be consistent with either cancer or an infection.

However, the doctors at Harnot Medical Center proceeded to treat Mr. Bliley for cancer rather than complete the tests necessary for a proper diagnosis that would have shown them that Mr. Bliley was suffering from a brain infection.

Mr. Bliley has suffered long term effects as a result of the delay in treating his brain infection.  The $3.5 million verdict in this Pennsylvania medical malpractice case included compensation for future medical costs, lost income and pain and suffering.
