Majority of States Join Lawsuit Against Healthcare Reform

As of last Friday, January 20, 2011 a slight majority of states had joined the lawsuit initiated by the state of Florida challenging the health care reform bill passed last year.  Pennsylvania is among the states challenging the law.

The states are arguing that healthcare reform is unconstitutional.  Of particular concern to the states is the requirement that people purchase health insurance by 2014 or face legal penalties.  The states are also worried about the unfunded mandates of the law that require healthcare facilities to take certain actions or risk losing Medicaid funding.

The case is currently pending in federal district court and we will continue to monitor it and other potential changes to healthcare reform that could be forthcoming from Congress.
