Is This the Wave of the Future?

Can medical malpractice mistakes be prevented with a scan of a patient’s hand?  New technology is being tested that would allow a patient’s medical records and history to be pulled up with a scan of the patient’s palm.  The distinct vein pattern in the person’s hand would identify the patient and help prevent medical mistakes.  Additionally, the system could be used if a patient arrives for emergency medical care without identification.

Some people are concerned about the security of this system, though supporters of the technology describe it as secure.  What do you think?  Would you be willing to use it to try and avoid medical malpractice injuries?
