How Does Your Doctor Write Prescriptions?

Do you know how your doctor submits your prescriptions to your pharmacy?  Should you care?

A new Boulder, Colorado based business, ScriptPad, thinks you should.  According to ScriptPad and others, there are as many as 7,000 deaths in the United States every year due to medication errors.  Many of these mistakes happen because a pharmacist misreads a written prescription.

ScriptPad is currently testing a Beta program where doctors can write their prescriptions on their iPhones or iPads and submit them directly to the pharmacy – thereby eliminating the risk that the doctor’s handwriting would be misinterpreted.

Will this new program help decrease medication errors here in Pennsylvania and across the nation?  Would you, as a patient, chose a doctor based on how she submits prescriptions to a pharmacy?
