How Big a Problem are Wrong Site Surgeries in Pennsylvania?

Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority issued a quarterly update on the Preventing Wrong Site Surgery Project.

According to the Patient Safety Authority, there is, on average, at least one wrong site surgery performed in Pennsylvania each week.  There were 14 wrong site surgery events in Pennsylvania for the most recent quarter for which statistics are available – April 1 – June 30, 2010.

Wrong site surgeries are medical mistakes that can typically be prevented if hospitals follow proper procedures and if proper care is exercised at every step of the procedure.

If you have been injured by a wrong site surgery then you may be entitled to damages.  Contact a Pennsylvania medical malpractice lawyer today for more information.
