CDC Reports Good News and Bad News About Hospital Acquired Infections

Last week the CDC reported good news about hospital acquired infections.  According to the CDC, bloodstream infections acquired from tubes have dropped significantly in ICU patients in the last decade.  In fact, the infection rate dropped by 58% from 2001 – 2009.

However, these very dangerous and largely preventable infections remain high in other hospital wards, for patients receiving kidney dialysis and for ICU patients.  Approximately 80,000 patients a year are still contracting a central line infection in the ICU and approximately 10,000 patients a year are dying from those infections.

If you have suffered from a central line infection, or if you have lost a loved one to such an infection, then you are encouraged to contact a Pennsylvania medical malpractice lawyer for more information about your rights.
