Deplorable Conditions Found At Another Philadelphia Abortion Clinic

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

In the wake of the tragedies at the Women’s Medical Society Clinic operated by Dr. Kermit Gosnell, Pennsylvania has been conducting inspections at all of the state’s abortion clinics.

Recently, the state inspections revealed unacceptable conditions at the two Abortion as an Alternative Inc. clinics in the Philadelphia area.  The Abortion as an Alternative clinics located in Bensalem and Philadelphia were operated by Dr. Soleiman Soli.  Both locations were ordered to stop performing abortions after inspectors visited the facilities.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports finding medications from the 1970s and 1980s, inadequate or not properly performing equipment, inadequate record keeping, and the mishandling of fetal tissue.  Specifically, the inspectors found unsterilized equipment, a lack of required equipment to resuscitate patients, and other potentially life threatening violations.

It is unclear if any women were injured because of the conditions at the Abortion as an Alternative clinics. If you believe that you, or a loved one, were injured then it is important to contact an experienced Pennsylvania medical malpractice lawyer at 866-737-4556 for help as soon as possible.

The Criminal Case Against Kermit Gosnell

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Medical malpractice is a civil cause of action that allows injured patients, or their survivors, to bring a lawsuit for damages against the medical provider or entity that caused their injuries.

However, in extreme cases, medical malpractice is not the only lawsuit that a defendant may face. In some cases, such as the case against Kermit Gosnell, criminal charges may also be filed.

The criminal case, as well as the civil cases against Kermit Gosnell, is moving forward.  Last Friday, Common Pleas Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes ordered Kermit Gosnell, and his wife Pearl, to obtain private counsel by Wednesday of this week.  The Gosnells’ had argued that they lacked the resources to hire private attorneys and wanted a public defender assigned to their cases.  The judge denied their request, found that they had ample resources to hire private practice lawyers and urged Dr. Gosnell to hire a lawyer with experience in capital cases.

We will continue to monitor the case against Kermit Gosnell and we encourage you to contact us with any information that you may have in this regard.

The Cases Against Kermit Gosnell

Last May, we wrote about Kermit Gosnell, an abortion doctor in West Philadelphia, who was the subject of multiple government investigations.

Last week, there were significant developments in the criminal and civil cases against Dr. Gosnell.

The Grand Jury Report is In and its Contents are Horrifying.  The explicit 281 page report goes into great detail about the horrendous conditions of Dr. Gosnell’s clinic, the shocking lack of oversight by the state, and the tragic consequences for women and children.  In the end, the Grand Jury recommends that Dr. Gosnell be charged with multiple crimes, including murder.

Additionally, Anapol Schwartz has Filed a Wrongful Death Case on behalf of the survivors of Mrs. Karna Mongar, one of the women killed at Dr. Gosnell’s West Philadelphia Women’s Medical Society clinic.  Anapol Schwartz is committed to helping Mrs. Mongar’s family recover the damages to which they are entitled.  If you have any information about what happened at the Women’s Medical Society clinic, please contact the Pennsylvania medical malpractice lawyers of Anapol Schwartz at 1-866-735-2792.

VA Prostate Cancer Program Fined by US Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Last week the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission imposed a fine against the Department of Veteran Affairs for violating federal radioactive material regulations at some of its prostate cancer treatment programs.

The investigation into the VA prostate cancer programs started in Philadelphia where 97 of 114 patients received the incorrect doses of radiation between February 2002 and June 2008.

The VA has thirty days to accept or to challenge the fine.

Cancer patients are faced with a potentially fatal disease that requires proper diagnose and treatment to maximize their chances of survival.  If your cancer was incorrectly diagnosed or if you were provided the incorrect doses of radiation to treat your cancer and you suffered a physical injury as a result then you may be entitled to damages.  Contact a Philadelphia medical malpractice lawyer for more information.

What Happens When the Hospital Does Not Follow the Doctor’s Orders?

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

The results can be fatal when nurses or hospital employees fail to follow doctor’s orders.  Consider the case of a 64 year old woman who had a successful colostomy reversal surgery and later died at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.  Her surgeon provided specific written instructions that the woman was not to have any oral feedings.  However, the woman was provided with liquid and solid food, despite the doctor’s orders.  She developed sepsis that led to organ failure and ultimately her death from the reintroduction of an oral diet too soon.

Her children and the executors of her estate sued and recovered $1.75 million dollars.  However, despite their successful  Philadelphia medical malpractice lawsuit, they still suffer the unnecessary and tragic loss of their mother.
